Cabin suitcase for Vueling 2026: sizes, fares and best options
A cabin suitcase for Vueling has specific rules worth knowing before you buy. Vueling is the go-to airline for domestic and European routes from Barcelona and Madrid. Here is everything you need to know.
Vueling hand luggage rules 2026
Vueling's baggage policy depends on the fare you buy. This is how it works:
| Fare / Type | Max. size | Max. weight | Free? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small bag (all fares) | 40 × 30 × 20 cm | No specific limit | ✅ Always free |
| Cabin suitcase 55×40×20 | 55 × 40 × 20 cm | Max. 10 kg | ✅ Included with Fly, Fly Pro and Fly Grande |
| Cabin suitcase (Fly Light fare) | 55 × 40 × 20 cm | Max. 10 kg | 🔶 Paid (supplement) |
ℹ️ Vueling has renamed its fares: they are now Fly Light, Fly, Fly Pro and Fly Grande. Fly Light includes only the small bag; the 55×40×20 cabin suitcase is a paid supplement. Fly, Fly Pro and Fly Grande include it. If you are flying Fly Light, compare whether upgrading your fare or paying the supplement works out cheaper.
Exact cabin suitcase dimensions for Vueling
The size limit for a cabin suitcase on Vueling is 55 × 40 × 20 cm, the same as Ryanair. If you buy a suitcase that meets Ryanair's rules, it is also valid for Vueling.
The dimensions include wheels, handles and outside pockets. Choose suitcases with an inner shell of around 52×37×19 cm to leave a comfortable margin.
If the small bag does not fit under the seat or the suitcase exceeds 55×40×20 cm, it is charged as checked baggage at the boarding gate, and that can cost more than €100.

Which fare should you choose if you bring a cabin suitcase on Vueling?
Our quick guide:
- Small bag only: the Fly Light fare is enough.
- Cabin suitcase + bag: the Fly fare includes both. If the difference from Fly Light is less than €15-20, upgrading is almost always worth it.
- Checked suitcase: any fare plus a checked baggage supplement.
On summer routes (Mallorca, Ibiza, Canary Islands) the supplement rises sharply close to the date. Book it as early as possible.
Tips and tricks for flying with Vueling
- Keep your toiletry bag in the outside pocket of your cabin suitcase so it is handy at security.
- On the Fly Light fare with only a small bag, make the most of it with a well-organised 40×30×20 backpack.
- Check in online from home: it is easier and saves queuing.
- On night flights or quiet flights, Vueling is more lenient. But don't count on it.
Frequently asked questions about Vueling baggage
Can I bring a backpack as well as a cabin suitcase on the Fly fare?
Yes. With Fly you can bring the 55×40×20 cm cabin suitcase AND the 40×30×20 cm small bag. They are two separate items.
Will I be charged if my suitcase weighs more than 10 kg?
Vueling may ask you to check the suitcase in if it exceeds 10 kg. The fee at the gate is much higher than the supplement booked in advance.
What about musical instruments or sports equipment?
They are treated as special baggage with their own rules. Always check with Vueling before you travel.
What cabin suitcase size does Vueling allow in 2026?
The maximum size is 55 × 40 × 20 cm for the cabin suitcase (paid supplement on the Fly Light fare; included on Fly, Fly Pro and Fly Grande) and 40 × 30 × 20 cm for the small bag, which is free on every fare.
What size should my backpack be to fly with Vueling?
If you carry it as your small bag, the limit is 40 × 30 × 20 cm and it travels free on any fare. If it is larger, it counts as your cabin suitcase and must meet 55 × 40 × 20 cm.
